The Jukebox usually comes on Fridays, but I bring it to you a day early because tomorrow I will be computerless and en route to my friends’ wedding. So here’s what my iPod is rotating now, just for the occasion:
White Wedding, Part 1, Billy Idol. This song almost makes me want to get married so I can use it as the “first dance” song. Good, good stuff. Am I the only one who finds it impossible to sing this song without doing the little side lip curl?
I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time, Mariah Carey. I have listened to this 23 times according to my iPod (I thought the number was higher). Still love it!
Daydreamer, Adele. Adele is my new obsession. The other day I was still feeling bluesy, so to cheer myself up, I checked to see if she was touring. Sure enough, she is! Her shows are sold out in a bunch of cities, from Chicago to NYC, but wouldn’t cha know it – there are tickets available at next month’s show in DC! Guess who’s going?
Then I checked my email, and the show tickets came with two free iTunes downloads, care of Ticketmaster! Who says they are evil? (Ok, yeah, I paid 10 bucks to them in service fees and the iTunes gift is worth $1.98, but it’s $1.98 more in music than I was expecting, so there). It really made my day! Hopefully the show will give me some more musical inspiration.
Chasing Pavements, Adele. Like I said, I’m obsessed.
Make You Feel My Love, Adele. I’m getting better at playing this! I also started teaching myself another tune:
Something So Right, Annie Lennox. An absolutely beautiful cover of Paul Simon’s tune. The keyboards are easier on this tune, but the vocals are harder. And also, unfortunately, I don’t sound like Annie Lennox. I wish I did (more on that later).
We’ve Only Just Begun, The Carpenters. I love the Carpenters. I am not a sappy person, and this is just about the sappiest wedding song ever written, but I love it! “White lace and promises, a kiss for luck and we’re on our way!” Love it!
Be Without You, Mary J. Blige. I really don’t think it’s possible for me to make a Mary-less playlist. This is my very favorite Mary J. song ever. Gorgeous, gorgeous love song, apropos for a wedding weekend. “Call the radio if you just can’t be without cha baby - Heeeeyyyy, heeeeeyyyyyyy!” Ok, I wish I sounded like her too.
Send One Your Love, Stevie Wonder. I heard this in a store yesterday and started singing along. I did not care that I was in public. You can’t hear this song and not sing. Don’t hold back your feelings. You don’t need a reason, when it’s straight from the heart.
Dancing in the Moonlight, King Harvest. Ok, something very, VERY cool happened yesterday – I got a comment on this blog from the band – King Harvest!! What a cool and unexpected treat! And this song also makes me think of the most fun part of a wedding reception – dancing! Supernatural delight, indeed:
